Spend according to your means

The wives of Rasulallah saw asked him to spend on them at a time when he had nothing, and he did not have to spend more than Allah had bestowed upon him. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Let the rich man spend according to his means, and the man whose resources are restricted, let him spend according to what Allah has given him…”[al-Talaq 65:7]

After this, they never repeated their demands again, may Allah be pleased with them.
